JetBlue | George Soros
And the stock market.
Fascinating how it all works. A little bit of what we spend goes into the pockets of those that own pieces of the company. All the way back to the point of origination, in some cases. For example, if you purchase an orange juice drink from the local fast food joint, the purchase price is split between the store, the owners(s) of the store (the stockholders), the supplier of the oranges (and their stockholders), the supplier of the cup you're drinking from (and its stockholders), the maker of the straw (and its stockholders), the maker of the napkin (and its stockholders), the maker of the credit card machine (and its stockholders), the credit card holder (and its stockholders), the gasoline company that provided the gas to get you to the store (and its stockholders), the auto manufacturer that put out that fabulous model car you own/lease (and its stockholders), the clothing companies that dressed your form (and their stockholders), the soap company that pressed the bar of sweet-smelling cleaner you used in the shower (and its stockholders), the local water and power (and their stockholders)... on and on and on and on. A VERY simplistic overview. A mentally-visual trail of how the money goes.
Pop! Goes the Weasel. Every time we spend a buck. Every time. Without fail. Millions and millions and millions of times each day - all over the world.
I've been perusing one of the many (international) stock portfolios of George Soros (YE 2006). Interesting, to say the very least. The man has a fervent hunger to own pieces of dozens of pharmaceutical, bio-engineering, and genetic research companies. Also with numerous showings are oil, drilling, and mining companies (what do the Global Warming folks have to say about that?). But, taking the top four from his most recent SEC filing:
1. Companhia Vale do Rio Doce, bringing in a whopping $356,686,000 for 2006.
2. International Rectifier Corp, with 2006 earnings of $140,738,000.
3. SCI Systems, Inc., successful for George in 2006 with $113,220,000 rolling into the bank.
And, rounding out the top four is
4. JetBlue Airways, with $90,928,000 in personal profit to George Soros.
14Feb07, Soros Reports Marathon Acquisition Stake
WASHINGTON, Feb 14 (Reuters) - Billionaire investor George Soros said on on Wednesday he holds a 7.6 percent stake in Marathon Acquisition Corp. (MAQ.A: Quote, Profile, Research), a blank check company, and 9.7 percent of JetBlue Airways Corp.'s (JBLU.O: Quote, Profile, Research) common stock. In separate U.S. regulatory filings, Soros said he bought 3.75 million Marathon shares when the company went public in August 2006 and held nearly 17 million JetBlue common shares as of Dec. 31, 2006.
JetBlue would have been my personal choice in an airline, but now knowing George Soros owns 9.7 percent of the company, I'll find other transportation, thank you.
"Blue" is another word found running rampant through the portfolio. This is a tip-off, folks. If "Blue" is in the name or the predominant color of the company's logo, I'd check twice in verifying the true ownership, it may very well belong to George. Or, at least a few hundred-thousand shares worth.
He is a brilliant investor, I'll give him that. He has successfully insinuated his evil fingers into every aspect of life. From the time you wake up - until you sleep, George Soros will be getting some of your money.
His holdings even include the machines your credit cards are swiped through when purchasing something. Yes, every time you slide your card through, he gets a piece of the action. And, if you're using a MasterCard, he gets even more.
Progressive Insurance Company is also a pretty piece of change for Soros. Owning, as of 31Dec2006, 80,300 shares at a value of $1,971,000. Not as large a chunk as I had originally thought, but hefty enough.
Costco is another company on his rolls. 314,500 shares brought him $15,624,000 in 2006. Think about that the next time you're pushing your flatbed cart through those wide aisles.
CVS Pharmacies are part of the plan, too. 2,171,800 shares with a value of $71,803,000. That's a lot of vitamins.
Echostar Communications (DishNetwork), too. How many little dishes have you seen mounted to rooftops? 69,763,000 shares at a value of $70,025,000. Get the popcorn! It's movie night!
Halliburton comes in at Number 18 in money-making ventures for 2006. 1,999,450 shares with a value of $60,083,000. Not a bad haul, huh?
Bluefly (there's that "Blue" word) is another biggie. 48,599,355 shares with a value of $56,375,000. On-line shopping - meet George Soros.
Chipotle Mexican Grill? Uh huh. It's there, too. 615,161 shares with a value of $38,520,000. Ay, Dios mio!
Abercrombie & Fitch Co. Nice duds. Trendy. Young. 438,000 shares with a value of $36,209,000.
Valero Energy Corp. You've seen those "blue" gas stations on the corner, right? Er, uh, left? 603,500 shares with a value of $31,062,000.
Walgreen's. Yes, folks, the list goes on and on and on... 653,000 shares with a value of $30,045,000.
Cisco Systems, Inc. He's locked into semiconductors and ethernet stuff, too. This one shows as 1,226,100 shares valued at 28,176,000.
Yum! Brands. This would be A&W All-American Foods, KFC, Long John Silver's, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell. 459,300 shares valuing $27,682,000.
Goodyear Tire & Rubber. 1,073,500 shares with a value of $27,031,000.
Jamba Inc. Yes, this is Jamba Juice. 2,666,667 shares valuing $27,013,000. That's a whole lotta squeezing.
TJX Companies, Inc. This includes TJMaxx, HomeGoods, Marshalls, Winners, TKMaxx, AJWright, HomeSense, Bob'sStores. 751,700 shares with a value of $21,401,000.
Also on the list (with their values) are:
American Eagle Outfitters, Inc ($21,104,000)
Take-Two Interactive Software (Grand Theft Auto, Sid Meier's Civilization, Max Payne, Midnight Club, Manhunt, Red Dead Revolver, Railroad!, Sid Meier's Pirates, and Top Spin. Licensed brands include the sports games Major League Baseball 2K, NBA 2K, NHL 2K, and College Hoops 2K) ($20,442,000)
GameStop Corp (GameStop is the world's largest video game retailer. Over 4,400 stores located throughout the United States and 15 countries around the world; GameStop, EB Games and Electronics Boutique, and Game Informer, one of the industry's largest circulation video game magazines. ($20,393,000)
Kohl's Corp ($19,638,000)
JC Penny Co., Inc ($18,917,000)
Target Corp ($18,017,000)
CarMax, Inc ($17,856,000)
Nokia Corp ($15,348,000)
Coach, Inc ($19,119,000)
Federated Department Stores, Inc ($14,631,000)
Limited Brands (Victoria's Secret, Express, Bath & Body Works, The Limited, C.O.Bigelow, The White Barn Candle Company, Henri Bendel) ($13,907,000)
Loews Corp ($12,728,000)
Nordstrom, Inc ($12,589,000)
AutoZone, Inc ($10,227,000)
The list seems to go on forever, a piece of everything we need for survival is owned by George Soros. Every time we buy something, his personal mission of completely open societies is furthered.
Just a heads up - in a big way.
Interesting, too, to note, is Soros owns a big chunk of "Conservative" enterprises, too. News Corporation (the owner of all things Fox) is number 154 on the list of the portfolio I'm reviewing. George Soros owns 183,272 shares at a value of $4,516,000. Limited Brands, Target, and Chipotle, as mentioned above, are also considered "Conservative" enterprises.
Also, please be aware of buyblue.org. .org. Hmmmm. Not .com. Another hmmmmmmmmmm. I will not provide a clickable link as it would "tie" me to their site, internet-ly speaking. This is a website compiled of suppliers dedicated to the Liberal agenda of MoveOn.org and George Soros. The website encourages people to "vote with your wallet" and support "blue" stores with their "blue" dollars for the "blue" cause. And now, you can even buy stock in buyblue.org. through Blue Investment Management. Imagine that!
I'm starting to really dislike the color blue and the political tone it's taken.
From the website:
Some interesting things on their website are notable. The Blue Fund combines the screens that you'd see with most socially responsible mutual funds such as Calvert, Domini and Pax. The unique thing about this fund is that it further limits the screens by including only companies that have contributed 50% or more to Democratic politicians since the 1998 election cycle. For this portion of the screen they have adopted a similar methodology to the one we use at BuyBlue.
Well-defined Economic Activists (from the site) aren't they?
It's simple, really. If something you buy is on their list - remove it from yours. Turnabout is fair play and thank you for providing such detailed information, buyblue.org.
As they say, keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer.
Some of the companies furthering the Liberal agenda of MoveOn.org with deliberation and purpose are:
Academy Sports & Outdoors, Ltd, Adobe Systems Incorporated, American Apparel, LLC, Apple, Inc, Barnes & Noble, Inc, Bed, Bath & Beyond Inc, Choice Hotels International, Inc, Claire's Stores, Inc., The Clorox Company, Commerce Bancorp, Inc., Crate and Barrel (Euromarket Designs Inc.), Diamond Resorts International, The Dress Barn Inc., E. & J. Gallo Winery, eBay Inc, Estee Lauder Companies Inc, Fannie Mae, Gap Inc, Gateway, Inc, Google Inc., Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc., H&R Block, Inc., Harrah's Entertainment, Inc, Hyatt Hotels and Resorts, J. Crew Group, Inc, L.L. Bean, Inc, Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc., Level 3 Communications, Inc., Levi Strauss & Co, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc., Mattel, Inc, The Men's Wearhouse Inc, Netflix, Inc, Omaha Steaks International, Inc, Overstock.com, Inc, PG&E Corporation, Powell's Books, Inc, Progressive Corporation, Prudential Financial, Inc, QUALCOMM Incorporated, Reebok International Ltd., Sharper Image Corporation, Sonic Corp, SPS Studios, Inc (Blue Mountain Arts), Starbucks Corporation, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc, Sun Microsystems, Inc, The Timberland Company, Triarc Companies, Inc (Arby's), Winmark Corporation, Working Assets Funding Service, Inc.
Please remember, stocks are something anyone can purchase. Political affiliation may sometimes matter, but the number of shares owned isn't always an indication of political leaning or inclination. Soros owns a great amount of stock in "Conservative" holdings as well as the "Liberal". That's freedom of choice. And damn smart, too. On the other hand, companies that publicize their allegiance and financial backing to MoveOn.org and the Liberal agenda of George Soros are another matter entirely.
