Matt Lauer | Havana

Damn. I often so dislike living on the Pacific Coast when all things political happen on East Coast time.

I did see Matt Lauer's love fest with Havana this morning. What a maroon. He extols all this wonderful wonderment about Cuba and then, almost under his breath and as an after thought, by the way, people living in Havana make about fifty-cents a day, live in hovels, have no personal freedoms, and have no hope for a brighter future. But Cuba has eradicated illiteracy and has the best health care system in the world.

Dear Matt Lauer

You ignorant Castro Slut, have you ever heard about the quality of life? You and your crew have never, and will never, know what it is to live in Havana or any other place in Cuba. You arrive in first class transportation, stay in first class hotels, eat first class food, and have first class technology at your fingertips no matter where you go. The people of Cuba do not. Your idea of "getting real" is going to the government-assigned neighborhoods and speaking with the government-tutored and rehearsed individuals you think are winging it. How long have they known you and NBC were coming over for a visit? Long enough to psychologically threaten those they have assigned as your camera fodder with cruel punishments if they do not represent Havana, Cuba, and Castro well.

And are you and NBC so gullible as to believe that what you see is actually what life is like? East Berlin did the same thing. The Soviets actually built façades that looked like weather worn, but livable buildings able to be seen when peering over the wall from West Berlin. The place was deserted save for a few people still under the very watchful eyes of the ever-present and armed Soviet troops in their watchtowers minimally every 500 yards along the interior of the wall. The East Berliners rarely looked toward West Berlin.

Havana is not as it was when it was in its heyday when Lucy met Ricky. Nor like Beirut was during the same time period. It was taken over by a leader within the Communist regime. Communists are bad people that willfully squelch and/or deprive people of their rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

That's the whole point of Communism, Lauer. To make them into robots that work for the state.

Why are you in a Communist country where people are degraded, tortured, and imprisoned for voicing their opinions, no matter their content, as a way of life? Why are you there and why are you promoting Cuban tourism (The Today's Show's website offers a link for making plans and travel arrangements for a Cuban holiday)? Is it okay with you these human rights violations and imprisonments occur but because they take place behind the scenes, like the rape rooms in Baghdad, it makes tourism feasible and logical and moral and right? Out of sight - out of mind? Is that it, Lauer?

Hey! Lauer! I've got this bridge...

Running it down again, for clarity...

An American celebrity Liberal newsman vacationing first class on the dime of a Liberal American television network, the special (political) guests of Communist Castro in Havana, Cuba,

Promoting (Hillary Clinton's Soros-inspired) Socialism and Communism as a better way of life to a (deliberately) mostly-female American television-watching audience (The Today Show's website is run under the iVillage banner),

Pushing the idea to America that Cuba is "better than" the United States due to their socialized medicine, zero illiteracy rate (so Havana says, unable to verify statistic as fact), and zero homelessness (so Havana says, unable to travel freely within the villages throughout the country and cannot verify statistic as fact),

Pretending Cuba is a burgeoning and bustling place ready to burst with excitement, because, after all, they love it there! They're happy, carefree people! It's like Jamaica or the Bahamas! Why wouldn't Americans love it there? Actually urging Americans to spend (in the Liberal mind, "expendable") and (in the Liberal mind, "unworthy, ungrateful, guilty-because-I'm-a-rich-American") American dollars and visit such a place, to pump American dollars into the (American-touted tourist) economy, all of which will go directly into the leader's personal pocket and projects.

Yeah, I want to promote that Communist country as worthy of visiting.

What kind of a sick, sad person would do that, Lauer? Oh, yeah! Matt Lauer!

Nothing will change for the better because of it, Matt. Nothing. The usual and customary wage of the population will remain fifty-cents a day, squalor the everyman's palace, doctors paid the same fifty-cents a day as the street sweeper. Actors, even bad ones, like you, receive the same fifty-cents a day. Now there's some fantastic quality of life, Lauer. Unbeatable. Sought-after. Desired.

That's why so many Cubans risk life and limb crossing the ocean in refrigerators, inner tubes, and makeshift rafts in hopes of setting foot on the shores of the United States, their desire and passion for the God-given right of freedom guides them here - against perilous odds. Having to fulfill the requirement of "dry foot" to gain instant amnesty, each and every American praying for that successful result of the many making the journey, so many losing family members during the trip. Those not meeting the requirement sent back to Cuba, many never seen or heard from again, many others thrown into prison for seeking freedom from Communism and Castro.

It is all about the people there. They don't want a life in Communism. They are prevented from moving freely about the Earth. Castro sees to that. They can't go to Disneyland or Hollywood or New York City. We know that. They know that. Castro knows that. That's why he puts so many in prison. He fears a revolution. Which is exactly what needs to happen. We'd be there in an hour to back the people in attaining their freedoms once and for all. No doubt.

It's not the other way around, Matt. We're not risking our lives to go to Cuba. We do not seek Communism, Socialism, or any of the offshoots. We're not staying up nights, working secretly in the dark for fear of our neighbors informing the government of our boat building project that looks like something else. Not happening in my neck of the woods, Matt. Is it happening in yours? I mean with the "regular folk". Not the elitist chic entitlement crowd.

Where in the world do you get these crazy ideas, Lauer? Have the e-mail MoveOn.org sends you filtered directly to the trash. The brain suds you've accumulated after regular readings are seeping from your ears. Wise up.

Curious about The Today Show's website's content regarding Cuba, the following links are offered (unlinkable through me):

All about Cuba
Video Video: Cuba's leader turns 80
Slide Show Slide show: Castro through the years
Quiz: What do you know about Castro?
Cuba after the revolution
Influential figures inside and outside Cuba
Fact file: Secrecy around Castro’s health
Fact file: Raul Castro

I peeked into "Influential figures" and found something odd in the text's script. Those people categorized as opposed to Castro are shown in a negative light. Their failures are outlined and sometimes, briefly explained. Those in alliance with Castro are all shown in a positive light. Accomplishments and bright ideas highlighted, sometimes with brief explanation.

Tell ya what I'd like some explanation on...
