Many Students Paying Big Bucks for Guaranteed Internship

So, is this an example of how the Left has successfully frightened everyone into believing that you'll never find a "good job" in this burgeoning economy?

"It's just one of those things you have to have before employers will even consider looking at your resume," he said.

They've convinced the parents of these college-age children to believe the child will never get anywhere without spending even more money to do it.

Students pay from $6,499 to $8,999 to have the company find them an eight-week summer internship, plus housing in dorms at universities, some meals, transportation to work and activities for a summer. Financial assistance, including loans, grants and full scholarships, is available.

An admissions team (probably barely able to read themselves) reviews applications and makes an offer. Students who are accepted pay a deposit of $500 to $1,000. Then they work with a placement agent, who finds a matching company. They're guaranteed an internship in the field of their choice or their money back.

Shouldn't that say "PARENTS pay from..."? No wonder both parents have to be in the workplace these days. Liberal society has set them up to believe they really need these things.

But, strangely, the Left is in cohoots with Big Business. Wait a minute, are they "Liberal" businesses (i.e., The New York Times, ABC, NBC, MSNBC, CBS)? Hmmm, Smith Barney. A financial institution? Not too Liberal, but then, what about the Management?

In four years, the company has placed 1,800 students in companies such as Paramount Pictures or MTV Networks, both divisions of Viacom Inc. It has slots this summer for 850 students, he said.

That answers that.

Kinda shoots down the theory that the Left is into socialism by their using capitalism to promote yet another falsehood.

Jesus, what this friggin' gulliable society will believe and buy. It's utterly astounding.

If you're unable to get a job based on you and your skills and abilities, you're hopeless.

Speaks to the low standard of quality we receive from any business these days, though, doesn't it? In dealing with "professional" people all the time in my work, I'm amazed at the lack of intelligence or business decorum. The often standard reply to a simple question, such as, "When will those reports be available?" is, "Huh?" or "I dunno." I just ache for the responder to slip the tip of their index finger into their nose half the time. And sometimes they do!

Watching college students making fools of themselves on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno's segment, JayWalking is sad. Even some teachers are brought to the microphone to answer simple and basic questions. Sure, there is editing happening to amuse the viewing audience, but, please... there are far too many with air for brains getting handed college and university degrees that don't even know the simplest facts. They get hired, complete with a larger salary than a high school graduate, and are useless in their positions, usually having to hire that high school graduate to to do their work for them. You've all seen it, the secretary that saves the day because of being smarter than the boss. You've seen it because it's true. Have you ever been an intern? I have. And I know others that have. From New York to Los Angeles. In the end, the parents have paid (or the government has paid via a grant) $9,000 so their child can be an intern at a large company for eight weeks. Their internship is supposed to be about work, but internships are usually about being a go-fer, making coffee, copies, collating, stapling, and answering the phone.

These kids are friggin' morons paying for someone else to do their work for them.

Lack of initiative. Lack of insight. Lack of self-worth.

Thanks, Liberals. We knew we could count on you for the continued destruction of self-reliance and integrity.

This is where we get our Jason Blairs.

I'm thankful for stories such as these. It informs me who I should NOT hire to work in my business. Any resume showing an internship from one of these outfits goes right into the circular file without a moment's hesitation. How do you feel about that, Mom and Dad? All that money is down the drain if your child knocks on the front door of my business. And I hope other businesses will see the uselessness of these programs and do the same in turning your child away. Believe me, it will help your child learn to stand on their own two feet.

I want someone to work at my company that is self-motivated and doesn't look for the easy way to accomplish challenges. And, by "easy", I mean, "paying someone else to do it for you". These kids think what they've done by participating in the programs of one of these internship houses is hard work. They actually believe that.

Sorry, kiddo. It's not hard work when Mommy and Daddy are paying for you to be there, and it's not hard work to have someone else write your resume for you. If you're unable to use that expensive college education your parents just paid for and buckle down and put your own words to paper -- I haven't the time to discuss anything with you. You're delusional if you think you're going to have someone else do your work for you (as you're used to) while in my employ.

Honest to God. Paying up to $9,000 to have someone write your resume for you is completely laughable. But these mills turn a good buck at helping those that are unable to help themselves.

Why is it these nimrods that pay for services such as these are unable to see that?
